Higher rates of high blood pressure among Black people are driven by inequities in income, housing, education and other areas that affect a person’s chance to live a longer, healthier life. These inequities, as well as lack of access to nutritious food and safe places to be physically active, contribute to higher rates of obesity and related illnesses, such as diabetes, in Black communities.
